Get Funded By Antler, A New Podcast and Fundraising Strategy Calls

Lots of news to share this week

Welcome to Nelson’s Newsletter, where founders learn the skills they need to nail their next fundraise.

The last few weeks have been filled to the brim with writing, recording and speaking with amazing founders. With so much going on, I haven’t had the chance to share some exciting developments with you yet, so let’s set that right.

Before we dig in, Antler asked me to share their Founder’s Residency Program in Singapore, which is designed for early-stage solo founders looking for a cofounder.

It’s 10 weeks long, Antler will help you with a visa, and give you a stipend to live on. At the end of the program, the most promising startups will receive $125k in funding for 10% equity. If you want to know more, just reply to this email and I’ll point you to the right person.

1. Achievement Unlocked

Nelson’s Newsletter now has over 2,000 subscribers. I’m unbelievably lucky that so many founders and VCs (not to mention family offices, PE and public investors, and even a handful of banks!) read these emails each week. Thank you all!

2. Nelson’s Podcast

Nelson’s Newsletter is now joined by Nelson’s Podcast.

The first three solo episodes are available now. Next week will be the first interview, which will feature a founder who just closed an $800k angel round and is preparing to raise a seed.

Check it out for actionable strategies and tips to nail your next fundraise from founders who have just completed successful raises themselves. If you like it, I’d appreciate a 5 star review to make it easier for other founders to find.

WARNING: Yes, I am English. Yes, I do have a funny accent. No, there’s nothing I can do about it. If you can get over that, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

3. Fundraising Strategy Calls

Several founders reached out wanting more hands-on help, so this month I began offering paid Fundraising Strategy calls to give founders the best possible chance of raising successfully.

I’m still working out the best format, but currently it’s:

  • 4 × 45 minute video calls, one per week.

  • Preseed and Seed Stage funding covered. I don’t focus on Series A+, sorry.

  • Topics will depend on your experience with fundraising, but may include:

    • How to plan a raise

    • How much to raise and how to value your startup

    • How to research suitable investors

    • Whether to seek angel investment or VC

    • How to get warm intros

    • Structure/Feedback on your pitch deck and pitch itself

  • Price is only $250 total, with the understanding that in return for the temporarily low price you’ll provide a short testimonial at the end of the engagement.

Two of the four slots for November are already gone, so if you’re aiming to raise in the first half of 2024 (or raising at the moment and not seeing the results you need), just reply to this email and I’ll send over booking details.

For new subscribers who don’t know me well yet, here are a few testimonials from people I’ve worked with:

“The days of ZIRP funding are long gone. Nelson cuts through the BS and shows founders what it takes to successfully fundraise in this new economic environment”

Tyler Whittle, VC, Floodgate

“After hundreds of VC meetings and a successful raise, it's safe to say Nelson knows what works and importantly, what doesn't”

Fernando Mendes, Founder and CEO of Avenue

“Nelson's advice and feedback has helped us to frame conversations and develop our USPs for investors. He has been instrumental during our fundraise”

James Mooney, Founder and CEO of Jeike

If you’re fundraising in the next six months and need a helping hand from someone who’s been there themselves (I’ve raised capital from investors on both sides of the pond), and can draw on best practices and experiences from my founder network, just reply and let me know.

Have a great weekend.
